European Union Postal Services Policy

EDM number 654 in 1994-95, proposed by Edward O'Hara on 21/02/1995.

That this House notes that in December 1993 the ministers with responsibility for postal services within the European Union adopted a resolution requesting the Commission to establish before 1st July 1994, a common policy for postal services within the Union, and in particular measures concerning the definition of normal service, the obligations of providers of universal services and the definition of reservable services; expresses concern however that such a policy has not so far been proposed; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government therefore to press the Commission to produce a workable and acceptable set of proposals on universal and reservable services before the next meeting of the ministers with responsibility for postal services.
