Association Of London Authorities And Evening Standard Health Conference
EDM number 651 in 1994-95, proposed by Bridget Prentice on 21/02/1995.
That this House congratulates the Association of London Authorities for organising, and the Evening Standard for sponsoring, a conference of Londoners, including both the general public and health professionals, on Saturday 18th February; notes and supports the resolution passed at that conference expressing concern at the disintegration of London's medical facilities, declaring the right of Londoners to high quality, readily accessible health care, and affirming pride in the medicine, teaching and research for which London has hitherto been internationally famed; notes and supports the call for an urgent, independent, public inquiry to secure London's threatened health services and for action to meet the changing needs of London's people and to restore to them the full benefit of modern treatments, technology and knowledge; and supports the Conference demand for an immediate halt to London accident and emergency department shutdowns, bed reductions and hospital closures, urgent action to reduce London's massive waiting lists, especially for life-threatening and painful conditions, major upgrading of London's inadequate general practitioner and community health services, protection and promotion of London's great heritage of medical teaching and research and the formation of an accountable, responsible and representative London-wide health authority.
