That this House notes with concern the case of Sikh asylum seeker, Mr Daya Pal Singh, whose application for refugee status, first lodged in October 1986, has still to be determined; further notes that in statements to this House the Secretary of State has claimed the average waiting time for the determination of asylum applications is some four months; regards Mr Singh's nine year wait to be an unacceptable breach of guidelines; and calls upon the Secretary of State to ensure that this case is concluded quickly, granting Mr Singh and his family, indefinite leave to remain in this country.
