Bicycles

EDM number 599 in 1994-95, proposed by Peter Bottomley on 10/02/1995.

That this House notes the Home Office's British Crime Survey report that 564,000 bicycles were stolen in 1991 and that the replacement value of those bicycles would be ú87 million; believes that bicycle theft is a major deterrent for those who would otherwise be encouraged by the Government's recommendation to take up cycling; recognises that bicycle theft is increasingly linked with organised and juvenile crime; is alarmed that investigation of bicycle theft may now be omitted from police duties; calls upon the Government to invite all police authorities to re-establish investigation and recovery of stolen bicycles; and suggests local authorities could do more to make it easier to secure bicycles in public places.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs.
