Alfred Mcalpine Plc

EDM number 592 in 1994-95, proposed by John Marek on 10/02/1995.

That this House notes the action of Alfred McAlpine plc in refusing to pay Kenneth Newall, a building sub-contractor from Wrexham, for Job 6043 carried out on the company's behalf on Phase II of the Wrexham Maelor Hospital, and for rejecting the claim of another sub-contractor for payment on the same project, despite both sub-contractors having compelling evidence that the work has been completed to the company's specification; notes that these refusals could be described as fraud and that this appears to form part of company policy, and that the Confederation of Construction Specialists has called on member firms to boycott work with Alfred McAlpine following disputes over non-payment and the driving of sub-contractors into insolvency at the Wiltshire Centre Parcs site; and calls upon the company to honour sub-contractual agreements forthwith and that Her Majesty's Government should not place any further contracts with Alfred McAlpine plc until this has been done.

This motion has been signed by a total of 21 MPs.
