Traffic In Endangered Species In Hong Kong (No. 2)
EDM number 59 in 1994-95, proposed by Tony Banks on 18/11/1994.
That this House commends the Government of Hong Kong for the work of the Endangered Species Protection Liaison Group involving the Agricultural and Fisheries Department, the Royal Hong Kong Police Force and the Customs and Excise Department; notes that during the past 12 months the Group has executed and directed over 3,300 inspections of Chinese medicinal shops with 387 raided under search warrants resulting in some 239 prosecutions; draws attention to evidence indicating that Hong Kong remains a major centre point for the illegal trade in endangered species; and calls upon the Government of the Crown Colony to set up a dedicated endangered species enforcement unit to build on the good work of the Protection Liaison Group.
