Review Of Airport Legislation Outside London
EDM number 580 in 1994-95, proposed by Jim Cunningham on 08/02/1995.
That this House demands that the Government finds parliamentary time to bring before the House the report on airports outside London known as the `Review of Aircraft Noise Legislation' so that this report can be debated and amended as necessary; notes that Ministers have given the reason for the delay in bringing this report before the House as lack of parliamentary time; therefore calls on the Government to take into consideration the grave concern of the people of Coventry and, in particular, residents of the Willenhall area, regarding (a) the lack of control over safety, noise, low flying aircraft etc., (b) the lack of regulations governing airports outside the capital and (c) the lack of legislation to allow these authorities to determine which operators can be allowed to use the operational facilities of these airports; notes the recent tragic occurrence that residents in the Willenhall and Baginton areas experienced regarding the aircrash just before Christmas in the Willenhall area, killing three members of the crew and two animal handlers and the recent death of a young woman, an animal rights protestor, as a result of an accident whilst protesting against the export of live animals; and therefore demands urgent action by the Government to find the parliamentary time necessary to debate these issues.
