Abuse Of Small Dealerships By Fiat UK Ltd
EDM number 536 in 1994-95, proposed by Stuart Randall on 02/02/1995.
That this House strongly condemns Fiat UK for its immoral and discriminatory treatment of some of its dealers who have served Fiat well for decades by its abusing the current Block Exemption scheme which distorts the free market and gives powers to manufacturers at the expense of the dealers; recognises that manufacturers must be free to rationalise their networks fairly and without indiscriminately destroying companies and jobs; notes that Belle Vue Motors (Southend) was coerced by Fiat to spend ú10,000 just 12 weeks before notice of termination whilst return of parts stock was rejected and no compensation offered by Fiat; further notes that Fiat, after issuing a notice of termination to A. B. Good of Hull, released their Fleet Customer listing to a competitor as well as allowing discriminatory advertising resulting in A. B. Good losing 40 per cent. of annual sales with disastrous consequences; regrets that Fiat directors Jim Blades and Ian Rowlands do not regard reasonable compensation as an option and that Rowlands believes that dealer agreements are to be exploited for Fiat with no regard to the dealers; and calls on the EU Commission to review the proposed changes to the current Block Exemption scheme to prevent this kind of abuse by Fiat.
