Tribute To Sir Stanley Matthews C.b.e.

That this House congratulates Sir Stanley Matthews CBE on his 80th Birthday, recognising his outstanding contribution to football from Stoke on Trent to the world stage; applauds his achievements from gaining his first schoolboy cap in 1929 to his 54 full caps between 1934 and 1957, being England's longest serving international career, during which he was twice voted Footballer of the Year in 1948 and 1963; and notes he played with such generosity of spirit that he was never even cautioned once, a spirit which continued in his visit to the House on 23rd October 1994 as a guest of the All-Party Football Committee to launch the book 'Football and the Commons People' being the nostalgic sentiments of 30 past and present Members of the House on the game which he so lovingly distinguished for so long.
