World Travel Market - Earls Court
EDM number 52 in 1994-95, proposed by Alan Meale on 17/11/1994.
That this House notes that the world travel market, held at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre, involves heavy brokerage of holiday opportunities to the illegally occupied area of Northern Cyprus; regrets the fact that Reed Exhibition Co. (UK) Ltd., in association with the British Tourist Authority an d English Tourist Board, have decided to play a part in attempts to attract holiday makers to an area whose illegality has been determined beyond doubt by all major international organisations; condemns the participation of these parties in promoting holidays in an area which rightly remains unrecognised due to the actions of its regime during the invasion and since occupation of the island which included the expulsion of the rightful inhabitants, the failure to account for 1,619 people, many of whom were either British or the relatives of United Kingdom citizens, who went missing during the invasion and who remain unaccounted for, as well as the continuing looting and destruction of the cultural heritage of the island; views with distaste the readiness of some holiday companies to seek financial gain by the exploitation of land, assets and property which was forcibly stolen from its rightful owners; and condemns their encouragement of people to travel to this area which is in breach of the spirit of United Nations and EU Resolutions and Directives.
