Funding Of The Matthew Trust And Assistance To The Mentally Disordered And Victims;of Aggression
EDM number 516 in 1994-95, proposed by Alex Carlile on 31/01/1995.
That this House notes the valuable work of the Matthew Trust as a pioneering mental health and penal reform group, which receives no central government funding, for its role as a last-stop agency, providing assistance to over 300 individuals by direct grant in 1994 (in addition to those receiving indirect grants and non-grant assistance); recognises that its provision is given in many cases to those who have no other voluntary or statutory agency to turn to; notes that the trust received over 2300 approaches for help in 1994 but was unable to meet all their needs; and calls on the Government to review its policy towards the work of the Matthew Trust.
