ST. JOSEPH'S PARISH CENTRE
EDM number 491 in 1994-95, proposed by Gordon Prentice on 25/01/1995.
That this House condemns the petty, eccentric and killjoy actions of the Liberal-led Pendle Council in wrecking plans by St. Joseph's Parish Centre in Barnoldswick for a New Year's Eve Party by insisting the celebrations end at 10.30 p.m.; notes the further lunacy insisted on by Liberal Councillor David Whipp that the Centre's curtains be drawn at 7 p.m. summer and winter; notes that the Centre is open to everyone in the local community, Catholic and non Catholic alike; applauds the valiant efforts of St Joseph's Church in raising funds to get the Centre off the ground in the first place; supports the attempts by Father Paul Reid and hundreds of his parishioners to force a re-think by Pendle Council and a return to common sense by lifting the 10.30 p.m. curfew on Friday and Saturday nights and by allowing the users of the Centre to open and close their curtains as and when they choose; and, furthermore, calls upon the Leader of the Liberal Democrats and honourable Members from his Party to repudiate the actions of Councillor Whipp who has confessed to the local press that he is the 'nasty little person' responsible for the difficulties affecting St. Joseph's Parish Centre.
This motion has been signed by a total of 39 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
