Illegal Occupation Of Cyprus

That this House regards the passing of the eleventh anniversary of the unrecognised Unilateral Declaration of Independence, issued by the illegal regime in occupied Cyprus, as a grave and regrettable milestone; continues to refuse to recognise the illegal occupation in the northern area of Cyprus which was taken by force in breach of international law; condemns the consistent absence of political will by the Turkish Cypriot leadership in the negotiations to reach a solution to the Cyprus problem; regrets the suffering of Greek and Turkish Cypriots as a result of Turkish intransigence; denounces the continuous disregard for religious sanctity and the neglect of the island's heritage illustrated in the occupied area by the destruction, looting and desecration of religious articles and places of worship; and thoroughly castigates the Turkish authorities for moving settlers to the occupied area in an attempt to artificially alter the demography of the area concerned and to create a society in which the indigenous Turkish Cypriot population find themselves in the minority and from which they feel compelled to emigrate.
