Coracle Fisheries
EDM number 428 in 1994-95, proposed by Ieuan Wyn Jones on 19/01/1995.
That this House recognises the cultural significance, as part of an ancient yet living tradition, of the coracle fisheries of South West Wales; expresses concern at the decline in this tradition of recent years; asserts that its maintenance is entirely compatible with conservation and the maintenance of fish stocks; fears that an increase in licence duties could cause several of the few remaining fishermen to cease their participation; and calls upon the National Rivers Authority and the Secretary of State for Wales to ensure that no increase in licence duty should be imposed on coracle men following the current review of Options for Future Structure and Duties vis-a-vis Net Licences for Migratory Salmonids.
