Trafalgar House Bid For Northern Electric (No. 2)
EDM number 345 in 1994-95, proposed by David Clelland on 10/01/1995.
That this House is gravely concerned that the privatisation policies of Her Majesty's Government have led to the possibility of Northern Electric being taken over by Trafalgar House; considers such a prospect to be disastrous and at odds with the concept of regional identity and the statement included in the White Paper, Privatising Electricity, which read, 'There is a strong case for retaining independent regional distribution companies, to respond to local needs and prospects.'; recognises that were this takeover to succeed a precedent would be set which would pose a threat to other privatised regional electricity companies; and calls upon the President of the Board of Trade to take immediate and effective steps to prevent this hostile bid from progressing any further.
This motion has been signed by a total of 49 MPs.
