Proposed Israeli Settlement At Har Homa And The Peace Process

EDM number 325 in 1994-95, proposed by John Gunnell on 20/12/1994.

That this House is deeply saddened to learn of plans to create a 40,000 Jewish settlement on the Har Homa hill near Bethlehem; believes that this demonstrates no commitment to a genuine accord between peoples of equal status, involving as it would the forced displacement of hundreds of Palestinians from their homes and lands they have farmed for centuries, the destruction of sites sacred to both Christianity and Islam and the imposition of yet more settlers in the West Bank; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to protest to the Government of Israel urging it to cancel the project forthwith, recognising that peace between neighbours can only be based on mutual respect.
