Central Region Labour Party And Fuel Poverty

EDM number 305 in 1994-95, proposed by Andrew Welsh on 16/12/1994.

That this House condemns Central Region Labour Group for opposing moves to adopt SNP controlled Tayside Region's initiative on fighting fuel poverty; notes that Central Region Labour Group opposed this move by voting against an amendment that called on the council to seek to adopt this initiative, thus defeating the amendment; further notes that such an initiative would involve free meals on wheels for the winter months, additional funding for voluntary groups involved with vulnerable groups and help for those facing diconnections; notes also that in 1993 deaths from hypothermia rose by 20 per cent. in Scotland and there are 3,000 excess winter deaths every year; and calls on the honourable Members for Sedgefield and Hamilton to state their views on this disgraceful move by Central Region Labour Group.

This motion has been signed by a total of 3 MPs.
