Dulwich Hospital Renal Unit
EDM number 288 in 1994-95, proposed by Tessa Jowell on 14/12/1994.
That this House notes with concern the proposal of the Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham Health Commission to cease purchasing renal transplantation from King's College Hospital, Dulwich; believes that this would seriously threaten the future of Dulwich Hospital Renal Unit as a centre of excellence in the care of kidney patients in the South Thames Region; believes the downgrading of the unit would be a severe blow to the many people in South East London and Kent who rely on it for both dialysis and transplant services; considers the Health Commission's proposal an insult to the people who raised ú1 million to improve facilities at the site and to the 30,000 people throughout South East England who signed a petition in support of the unit which was handed in at Downing Street last Christmas; and calls on the Secretary of State for Health to safeguard the future of the unit by urging the Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham Health Commission to continue to purchase renal transplantation from King's College Hospital, Dulwich.
