Christmas Turkeys

EDM number 285 in 1994-95, proposed by Tony Banks on 14/12/1994.

That this House congratulates John Gormley, the Lord Mayor of Dublin, for his decision not to accept the traditional gift of 50 Christmas turkeys unless they are free range; notes the predatory price war being waged over turkeys by leading food retailers and the resulting pressures on turkey meat production which already cause appalling suffering to the birds; calls upon Her Majesty's Government to introduce greater controls over battery production; and urges meat-eating Christmas shoppers to insist upon free range poultry.

This motion has been signed by a total of 29 MPs.
