Hare Krishna Hindu Temple

EDM number 25 in 1994-95, proposed by Ken Livingstone on 16/11/1994.

That this House, believing that freedom of religious worship is a cornerstone of democracy and that discrimination against minority religions is impermissible, expresses grave concern at the ban on worship at the Hare Krishna Temple, the most important Hindu shrine in Europe, by the Hertsmere District Council; and noting the rejection by Hertsmere Council of the Temple's proposal to meet local concerns by constructing an access road to route worshippers around the immediate residential area, calls for the threatened legal action against the Hare Krishna Temple to be dropped and a settlement which restores freedom of worship at the temple.
