Fire Service On Merseyside
EDM number 217 in 1994-95, proposed by Edward O'Hara on 07/12/1994.
That this House congratulates the firefighters of Merseyside for their courage, efficiency and dedication; notes however with alarm that the budget of the Merseyside Fire and Civil Defence Authority, already severely constrained in recent years, is to be cut by a further ú3.3 millions in 1995-96; is deeply concerned that the authority will be under-resourced to carry out its statutory responsibilities for the protection of the people of Merseyside, and that, inter alia, the firefighters themselves will be put at personal risk through undermanning and lack of protective clothing and other equipment; and therefore calls upon Her Majesty's Government to allocate sufficient resources to resolve this crisis of funding for the Merseyside Fire and Civil Defence Authority.
