Turkish Government Policy Towards Ozgur Ulke

That this House condemns the bombing of the offices of the pro-Kurdish newspaper, Ozgur Ulke, in Ankara and Istanbul and the printing premises in Ankara on 3rd December; notes that these attacks come almost a year after the Turkish government's attacks upon the offices of the newspaper Ozgur Gundem, the predecessor of Ozgur Ulke, on United Nations International Human Rights Day, 10th December 1993; condemns the Turkish government's continued policy of genocide against the Kurdish people and the murder of journalists; notes that several prominent Kurdish lawyers have been shot dead following the threat by the Turkish Prime Minister, Tanzu Ciller, to target Kurdish businessmen allegedly giving financial support to the PKK; and urges Her Majesty's Government to use its powers and influence within the CSCE, the Council of Europe and the United Nations to end the violation of human rights by the government of Turkey and bring to an end to the conflict, creating a climate for lasting peace based upon democratic rights for all the citizens of Turkey.
