Conduct Of The Honourable Member For Angus East And J.m. Barrie

EDM number 167 in 1994-95, proposed by Bill Walker on 30/11/1994.

That this House condemns the conduct of the honourable Member for Angus East in arranging for the Edmund Carswell original illustrations for the Peter Pan moving picture book to be displayed in the Jubilee Room without at any time consulting the honourable Member for North Tayside; notes that J. M. Barrie, the author of Peter Pan was born in Kirrimuir in the constituency of North Tayside; further notes that the first public performance of Peter Pan took place in December 1904; welcomes the decision of BT plc to celebrate the 90th anniversary and, in recognition of the Kirrimuir connection, to present the Carswell illustrations to Angus District Council whose headquarters is in the county town of Forfar also in the North Tayside constituency; and sees the behaviour of the honourable Member for Angus East as another example of the Scottish National Party honourable Members' ignoring the conventions of the Westminster Parliament and hijacking everything British and Scottish in his attempt to gain publicity for himself and his party.
