Human Rights And Pkk
EDM number 160 in 1994-95, proposed by Jim Spicer on 30/11/1994.
That this House notes the recent statement of Human Rights Watch Helsinki Group in New York, condemning the PKK's campaign of terror against teachers and educational institutions in south east Turkey; notes from the group's statement that 14 school teachers have been killed in one month; calls upon the PKK to cease immediately all such atrocities; further notes that the PKK has been responsible for the deaths of 12,000 people since 1984, including over 3,500 civilians; is appalled that in an interview in the Observer on 2nd October 1994 Kani Yilmaz, chief PKK spokesman in Europe, described Kurds who did not support the PKK as 'dishonourable ... they are not human'; and believes that the PKK's views and actions are not supported by the huge majority of Turkish Kurds on whose behalf it claims to be working.
