Ulster Television Programme On Fr Brendan Smyth
EDM number 159 in 1994-95, proposed by Andrew Mackinlay on 30/11/1994.
That this House congratulates Ulster Television on its edition of the Counterpoint programme which exposed the practices of the paedophile priest Brendan Smyth and the failure of both the church and state authorities to protect the rights and interests of children abused and their parents; regrets that this programme has not been screened on television outside Ireland; and calls on the independent television companies throughout the rest of the United Kingdom to give a network showing of this edition of Counterpoint as a matter of urgency in view of the implications of its distressing revelations for everyone in both Britain and Ireland.
This motion has been signed by a total of 12 MPs.
