Import Of Dangerous Fireworks
EDM number 1522 in 1994-95, proposed by Richard Burden on 26/10/1995.
That this House is most concerned by the seizure of fireworks in Liverpool containing the dangerous and unstable explosive mixture of sulphur and chlorate, which is specifically banned in the United Kingdom by the Explosives Act 1875; notes that these fireworks, which were manufactured in China and sold under the 'Red Lion' brand and exported by 'Kanash Ltd' of Northern Ireland, could explode if dropped or wrongly stored; agrees with the concern expressed by the British firework industry about the effect of Government deregulation measures; and calls for the reintroduction of effective licensing of imported fireworks and properly enforceable regulations to promote firework safety.
