Greece And The 28th Of October 1940
EDM number 1507 in 1994-95, proposed by Edward O'Hara on 24/10/1995.
That this House deeply deplores the insult given to the honour and heroism of the Greek national by the Daily Mail VE Day poster which omitted Greece from the list of allies who made their sacrifice in the Second World War; is reminded that for six months from 28th October 1940 to 23rd April 1941 Greece alone of the European countries was in armed combat along with Great Britain against the Axis forces; notes that the sacrifice of 558,000 deaths was a sacrifice of 8 per cent. of their population; and calls upon the editor of the Daily Mail to take the opportunity of the 55th Anniversary of 28th October 1940 to publish an apology to the people of Greece.
