Firework Safety

That this House notes that the number of firework-related injuries in 1994 was 50 per cent. greater than in the previous year; is concerned that revocation of the Fireworks (Safety) Regulation 1986 in March this year has caused widespread confusions by removing from local authority trading standards officers the duty to enforce the prohibitions of the sale of fireworks to children under 16 years, and the simplicity with which that responsibility could be exercised; and believes that the regulation should be re-introduced as a matter of urgency.
