Closure Of Dromenagh E.b.d. School

EDM number 1445 in 1994-95, proposed by Harriet Harman on 19/07/1995.

That this House notes with concern the planned closure in July 1996 of Dromenagh EBD School in Buckinghamshire, which, since the abolition of the Inner London Education Authority has been run by Southwark Council, provides residential care and education for boys aged five to 12 years with emotional and behavioural problems; notes that Dromenagh School provides a unique service for children from London and the South East; notes that if it is closed there will be no equivalent alternative provision for those children; notes that it is illogical for Southwark to run the school when they only have a minority of children there; notes that the uncertainty over the future of the school has resulted in falling rolls; and calls on the Department for Education to work with the school to find an alternative mangement framework and ensure the school can stay open.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
