Coxhoe Medical Practice

That this House requests that the Secretary of State for Health instructs the Northern and Yorkshire Regional Health Authority to instigate an immediate inquiry into the situation at Coxhoe Medical Practice in the City of Durham where, until two years ago, seven doctors served 12,000 patients in a newly-formed budget-holding practice but where, within six months, three partners left and the other four doctors separated, so eventually forcing the remaining two Coxhoe practice doctors to strike off their list all those people living in Cassop, Kelloe and West Cornforth, a total of 2,500 people, most of whom are now unofficially without a doctor; and further calls for the regional health authority to take immediate action to ensure cover is found at the Coxhoe practice in the near future and then discover if it is the Government's reforms and policy in regard to the cuts in doctors' training programmes, resulting in a major shortage of doctors, or the disunity and incompatibility of the doctors and the poor management of the practice, which has brought about this disaster.
