Housing White Paper
EDM number 1396 in 1994-95, proposed by Diana Maddock on 12/07/1995.
That this House, while welcoming the Government's commitment to extending the Rough Sleepers' Initiative announced in the White Paper 'Our Future Homes', regrets that there is no corresponding commitment to provide further specific funding for the next phase of the RSI; believes that the proposals to reform the homelessness legislation will mean a severe weakening of the essential safety net for homeless families and vulnerable homeless poeple; notes that homelessness is the most extreme form of housing need; believes therefore, that homeless people should continue to receive reasonable preference in the allocation of permanent homes; regrets that the proposals will cut emergency and long-term help for those in the most urgent housing need, including families with children; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to withdraw the proposals in the light of the Secretary of State's recent declaration that 'housing policy must be about securing decent homes for people.'.
