Persecution Of Converts In Egypt

EDM number 1361 in 1994-95, proposed by David Alton on 06/07/1995.

That this House is deeply concerned at the detention and disappearance in Egypt of Ibrahim Sharaf el-Din, who was arrested simply because he was a convert from Islam to Christianity; notes that the Egyptian authorities detained him about eight months ago without bothering to notify his family of his arrest and that he is being denied reasonable access to his lawyer; and urges the government of Egypt to ensure the safety and release of Ibrahim Sharaf el-Din as a matter of urgency, to respect the freedom of religion provisions in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which Egypt is a party, and to end its persecution of converts from Islam to other religions.

This motion has been signed by a total of 14 MPs.
