That this House demands that the Government starts to take action to remedy the unfair treatment that is being meted out to many people at the hands of the Immigration Service; notes that the Government was fulsome in its praise of the Complaints Audit Committee report of the Immigration and Nationality Department, despite many of its recommendations highlighting fundamental flaws in the Immigration Service; also notes with surprise that there is a shortage of interpreters and that the quality of the interpreters present is open to question, as revealed by the report; expresses its utmost concern that there are not adequate refreshment facilities at holding areas, where people are detained for long periods of time; urges the Foreign Office to brush up on its act in order to ensure that from now on accurate advice is issued on transit visa requirements; deplores the number of complaints from British black citizens and black people visiting the United Kingdom as a result of being singled out by some immigration officers because of the colour of their skin; and demands that such disgraceful practices are stopped immediately.
