Salary Increases In The Public Sector
EDM number 1336 in 1994-95, proposed by Dafydd Wigley on 30/06/1995.
That this House notes with concern the great disparity between the derisory one per cent. wage and salary increase offered by the Government to employees in the NHS, including not only nursing and paramedical staff but also auxiliary, clerical and administrative workers, and the increase of 22 per cent. from ú73,725 pa to ú90,000 pa to Clare Spottiswoode, Head of OFGAS, an increase apparently justified by a heavy work load over the past couple of years; draws to the Government's attention the heavy and increasing workload borne by NHS staff, largely as a direct result of the increased bureaucracy introduced over recent years; and calls on the Government to reward appropriately the dedicated hard work of all on who m NHS patients depend for their wellbeing.
