Conduct Of The Secretary Of State For Wales And Costing Of A Welsh Assembly
EDM number 1281 in 1994-95, proposed by Rhodri Morgan on 21/06/1995.
That this House deplores the farrago of absurd assumptions and confusions behind the ú123.9 million estimated for the cost of the Welsh Assembly published by the Secretary of State for Wales on 16th June; contrasts it with the figure of ú486,000 provided by the House of Commons Library to the honourable Member for Cardiff West for the cost of running the 98-member Northern Ireland Assembly in 1974-75 which would rise to ú2.5 million, again according to the Library, after allowing for inflation over the past 21 years; calls upon the Secretary of State for Wales to explain how his figure comes to be several quantum leaps larger than the figures provided by the Library based on the actual cost of administering the only real example of a regional assembly in the United Kingdom and not on fanciful and ludicrously inflated figures plucked out of the air by the Secretary of State; and calls upon him to withdraw his shoddy piece of workmanship.
