ST. ANDREW'S COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

That this House is very disturbed that proposals by the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council, in imposing Government cuts, have required St. Andrew's College, Bearsden, to produce plans that will involve the loss of 53 staff, including one third of its lecturers, over the next three years; is deeply concerned that this will mean severe cuts in the quality of courses at St. Andrew's since no cuts in student numbers have been proposed; and calls on the Government and the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council to cancel these cuts which threaten the viability of the college and the fulfilment of its mandate to produce sufficient teachers of high quality for Catholic schools in Scotland.
