Funding For Supervision Of Psychiatric Patients

That this House, noting that the Financial Memorandum of the Mental Health (Patients in the Community) Bill states that it should give rise to no additional costs for health authorities or local authorities, except for increased numbers of mental health review tribunals, calls on the Government to provide new funding for the supervision of psychiatric patients presenting a danger to themselves or others, called for by the inquiry into the care and treatment of Christopher Clunis, as otherwise the Bill cannot succeed in its purpose, and could, by diverting existing resources to this group of patients, have a damaging effect on others who are just as severely ill.
