Organophosphate Sheep Dips
EDM number 1212 in 1994-95, proposed by Paul Tyler on 07/06/1995.
That this House, noting that the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has admitted, in a Farming Today interview on 23rd May, that 'organophosphate' sheep dip is a 'very dangerous product' and will have to be withdrawn if it cannot be used safely calls for clarification of the implications of EU Directive 89/656 for the protective clothing required by the Ministry's certification scheme for use when dipping; and urges the Minister to review the case for a ban on these dips from an early date, while ensuring the rapid availability of effective but safer alternative forms of treatment.
