Durham Wasps Ice Hockey Team

EDM number 1209 in 1994-95, proposed by Gerry Steinberg on 07/06/1995.

That this House is appalled and disgusted that Sir John Hall of Cameron Hall Developments can use his immense wealth to buy Durham Wasps ice hockey team and propose shipping them to Newcastle, so depriving loyal supporters, fans and the city of their team which has played in Durham City for almost 50 years, particularly after the then owners of the Durham ice rink received a ú100,000 grant from the Foundation for Sport and the Arts partly on the basis that Durham ice rink was the home of the Durham Wasps and for its youth development scheme; and calls on Sir John Hall to respect the wishes of the vast majority of people in Durham City and withdraw from this dubious deal or, along with the then owners of the ice rink, as a matter of principle, repay ú100,000 to the Foundation for Sport and the Arts.

This motion has been signed by a total of 12 MPs.
