The Last Temptation Of Christ
EDM number 1201 in 1994-95, proposed by Martin Smyth on 06/06/1995.
That this House deplores the screening on Channel 4 of the fation of His relationships, His purported lovemaking with and impregnating of Mary Magdalene, and His alleged rejection and discrediting of St.Paul; furthermore believes that the showing of the film violates the statutory provision in the Broadcasting Act 1990 '6...(1). The Commission shall do all that they can to secure that every licensed service complies with the following requirements, namely - (a) that nothing is included in its programmes which offends against good taste or decency ...(d)(ii) any abusive treatment of the religious views and beliefs of those belonging to a particular religion or religious denomination'; and believes that this showing also reflects a trend in some television programmes to undermine the moral values which this House should be encouraging in society.
