Food Science Laboratory At Torry, Aberdeen

EDM number 1197 in 1994-95, proposed by Margaret Ewing on 06/06/1995.

That this House notes with concern the possibility of the relocation of the Food Science Laboratory at Torry, Aberdeen, to the Central Science Laboratory at York; is aware that the Torry Laboratory has functioned successfully for 65 years as a Government establishment devoted to work in the handling and preservation of fish as food and built up an international reputation of excellence; further notes that successful research teams of young scientists have been built up at Torry and any relocation of the staff would be a loss to the Scottish food and fish industry; draws attention to a Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food statement of March 1993 which said 'there are no plans to move the laboratories at ... Aberdeen from their present locations;' and calls on the Government to drop this proposal immediately.

This motion has been signed by a total of 10 MPs.
