NURSES' PAY IN GLASGOW VICTORIA INFIRMARY

EDM number 1134 in 1994-95, proposed by Jimmy Dunnachie on 17/05/1995.

That this House notes that the pay offer to nurses working at Glasgow Victoria Royal Infirmary of three per cent. linked to cuts in special duty payments, unsocial hours premium, geriatric lead payments and holiday entitlements could lose nurses up to ú300 a year; recognises that responsibility for that insulting offer lies with Her Majesty's Government which has imposed an internal market on the NHS at the same time as cutting funding to the NHS; further recognises that local bargaining in the NHS will inevitably lead to inequalities and injustices in, and the fragmentation of, a genuinely National Health Service for all of the people; and calls upon the Government to reinstate national pay bargaining to the NHS to ensure fairness for all who work in it.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
