National Epilepsy Week

That this House welcomes National Epilepsy Week from 14th to 21st May which aims to raise awareness of epilepsy, to meet the needs of the 420,000 people with the condition in the United Kingdom and to highlight the ignorance, prejudice and discrimination shown to those with the condition; applauds the participation of the Government during the week and looks forward to improvements in epilepsy services; congratulates the British Epilepsy Association for establishing the week in 1958 and recognises the long-term commitment of the Association in its 45th Anniversary Year and for its many services for people with epilepsy in the community particularly with the introduction of its latest project of Sapphire Nurses employed as clinical nurse specialists in epilepsy in health care trusts; commends the several thousand volunteers who will take part in the 82 walks throughout the country in the Walk to Beat Epilepsy during National Epilepsy Week; and urges further honourable Members to join the All Party Group on Epilepsy.
