Pendle Liberals And Press Embargoes

That this House utterly deplores the casual disregard by Pendle's Liberal Democrats of a firm and explicit press embargo on news of the successful National Lottery bid which will bring ú680,000 to Barnoldswick to help finance a new sports hall; notes that the embargo was meant to hold until 10.30 p.m. on Thursday 4th May, polling day for the local elections, but was breached by the Liberals on 3rd May, when they distributed thousands of leaflets throughout the area claiming sole credit for the good news; further notes that the embargo was honoured by the Labour and Conservative parties and by independent candidates in the election; deplores the comments of the Liberal election agent that the news was just brilliant and that they did not want to keep it to themselves and that they had done nothing wrong; considers that this is entirely typical of the Liberals in Pendle; calls on the Government to introduce new rules preventing such lottery announcements being made in and close to election periods; and notes that the Liberal Democrats won overall control of Pendle Council on 4th May.
