Animal Aid Report On UK Sheep Farming Practices

That this House welcomes the detailed report recently published by Animal Aid on the disturbing practices carried out in the United Kingdom by the sheep farming industry; deplores practices such as the sales of lambs aged under four weeks at markets, artificial insemination directly into the wombs of ewes, embryo transfer, electro-stimulation of rams to obtain semen, winter lambing before 1st April and the use of non-therapeutic treatments and drugs that artificially manipulate the reproductive cycle; urges the Government to ban such abhorrent practices, and calls, once again, for a maximum journey time of eight hours for live animals, with due care and attention to their needs during both their journeys and any waiting periods.
