Camelot Scratch Cards And Rowntree Foundation Enquiry
EDM number 1082 in 1994-95, proposed by Alex Salmond on 03/05/1995.
That this House welcomes the inquiry supported by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation into the impact of the National Lottery on charities, including the impact on income and the disbursement of lottery money; notes that the inquiry has received evidence on the addictive properties of the scratch card instant lottery game which, in contrast to the weekly draw, is provoking serious concern as to its impact in promoting addictive gambling; and calls on the Lottery Regulator to consider the suspension of the scratch card game until such time as this or a further inquiry has reported on its full social impact.
