First World War Executions (No. 2)
EDM number 1072 in 1994-95, proposed by Martin Redmond on 02/05/1995.
That this House expresses deep sorrow at the suffering of the relatives of the servicemen put to death in the First World War for no other reason than they were suffering from shell shock, some being killed in the most bestial circumstances in the abbatoir at Mazingarbe to the eternal disgrace of the British Commander in Chief and the continued shame of his descendants who, rather than bask in his pseudo-glory, should renounce their titles in perpetuity as an act of contrition; and further apologises to the descendants of all such executed servicemen for the ignorance and abuse of power of all the officers who condemned them.
This motion has been signed by a total of 42 MPs, 2 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
