FUTURE OF ST.DUNSTAN'S AND THE WAR BLINDED
EDM number 107 in 1994-95, proposed by Andrew Bowden on 23/11/1994.
That this House is deeply concerned the the intention of the St. Dunstan's Council, under the Chairmanship of Admiral of the Fleet Sir Henry Leach GCB, DL, to close Pearson House in Kemp Town, Brighton, and to transfer the very elderly residents to Ian Fraser House at Ovingdean, Brighton, will cause hardship and suffering to hundreds of war-blinded men and women; urges the St. Dunstan's Council to suspend any action until (i) the Charity Commission has completed its investigation, (ii) other alternatives are considered and (iii) a full scale national appeal has been organised; and further believes that if the proposals are implemented they will have a serious effect upon the objectives of the charity to provide rehabilitation, training and care of men and women blinded whilst serving in the armed forces of the Crown.
This motion has been signed by a total of 36 MPs.
