Council Tax Bills
EDM number 1006 in 1994-95, proposed by Jim Spicer on 20/04/1995.
That this House notes that the politically independent and respected Institute for Fiscal Studies has made clear that Labour is misleading the public with its claims on council tax bills; points out that in 1994-95 the average Labour council tax bill was nearly one third more than the average Conservative bill in every band and that people are around 40 per cent. better off under Conservative councils this year; condemns the Labour Party for deliberately misleading the public; and calls upon them to accept that Labour's record in local government is one of high taxes, poor services and political posturing.
