Tourism In Cheltenham

EDM number 930 in 1993-94, proposed by Nigel Jones on 23/03/1994.

That this House applauds the residents, businesses and Borough Council of Cheltenham for their positive approach to attracting tourists exemplified by the hugely successful Gold Cup race meeting at Prestbury Park; notes with relish other attractions including the 50th International Festival of Music, 2nd to 17th July, the Cricket Festival, 28th July to 8th August and the Festival of Literature, 7th to 16th October; appreciates the varied range of high quality hotels, guest houses and leisure activities of the town including the skilful play of Cheltenham Town Football Club; remembers those who have contributed so much to the town's cultural history including the composer Gustav Holst and Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones; and rejects attempts by a small section of the media to deter tourists from visiting and enjoying one of Britain's premier tourist resorts.
